If you think the latest changes to Apple’s MacBook line aren’t exciting, you’re not paying close enough attention. The 13-inch model is now part of the MacBook Pro line, and, like its larger-screened siblings, now has a more colorful display, and—at long last—an SD Card slot. Moreover, this 13-inch stunner lasts more than 6 hours on a charge.

The new 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro brings a lot of new features to the table from the previous generation. Users now get a large battery that gives pretty amazing life, a better display, faster processor, FireWire, SD-card slot, and best of all a lower starting price. Getting more for less seems to be the trend during this slow economy, so is there any reason not to buy the new 13″ MacBook Pro?

Last fall I bought a 13-inch unibody MacBook, and I fell in love. For the last seven months I’ve been head-over-heels with the machine. But now there’s a new love in my life: a brand new 13-inch MacBook Pro, which is shaping up to be the perfect laptop.

You know those Microsoft laptop hunter spots? Apple may already have responded with TV spots of their own, but these MacBook Pros strike back at Microsoft better than any ad can: by doing. Apple did two things simultaneously that are usually contradictory; they lowered the price of their entire MacBook Pro line while at the same time bumping up the specs.

There is a lot to like about the new 13-inch MacBook Pro. Priced at $1,199, it is cheaper than the previous 13-inch MacBook and is now more comparable to the cost of Windows notebooks. We love the sleek design, and improved color gamut in the display. Outstanding battery life also makes this MacBook Pro a top pick among thin-and-light notebooks.

After all the whining, the bickering, and the constant remarks about how Windows-based laptops have this and that and cost so much less, Apple, a company known to make its own rules, is finally letting down its guard. The lovable MacBook Pro 13-inch (now with the “Pro” moniker) has brought back the FireWire port, lowered its price, and for the first time in the company’s history, added the elusive SecureDigital (SD) slot.

Radically overhauled last year, Apple’s MacBook line of laptops moved to aluminum construction, edge-to-edge glass over LED displays, and oversize multitouch trackpads (with the exception of the lone $999 white plastic model). The latest round of updates is more of a refinement than another revolution, but it adds some much-sought-after features, while lowering prices on many configurations.

Unveiled at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro has three new features that were not found in the aluminum MacBooks that have been replaced. First, the new 13-inch laptops use a longer-lasting, non-removable battery, similar to the one first unveiled in the 17-inch MacBook Pro.

Until now, Apple’s MacBook Pro range has only come in 15 and 17 inch models – meaning if you wanted the convenience of a 13 inch Apple notebook then you had to forgo some of the advanced features of the MacBook Pro and opt for a MacBook. The new 13 inch MacBook Pro now offers the best of both worlds.
