Asus W90 Review

The ASUS W90 was designed with one goal in mind; blow all other gaming notebooks out of the water. The W90 features two ATI Radeon Mobility 4870 graphics cards connected in CrossFireX, an Intel T9600 processor, 6GB of DDR2 memory, and an 18.4” WUXGA display. With this configuration it can achieve upwards of 15,000 points in 3DMark06 and manage to fluidly play Crysis at 1920×1080 resolution.

When we first unboxed the ASUS W90, a behemoth that weighs 13.4 pounds, it was quickly dubbed The Beast for very obvious reasons. However, the 18.4-inch desktop replacement’s physicality isn’t the only reason the notebook earns that moniker; the Intel quad-core CPU, dual ATI Crossfire graphics cards, and 6GB of RAM enabled the machine to steamroll through every benchmark we could throw at it.

I’m not sure whether “desktop replacement” accurately describes the heft of the Asus W90VP, but I certainly agree with the included warning not to use it on a lap. Slightly more “monster” than “monstrosity,” this luggable goes where it wants with a 16.1-pound body and 17.5-inch-wide frame. But that size–which is big even for a power laptop–allows for desktop-like gaming power, even though other features disappoint.

Looking for a modest notebook? Turn around and walk away! ASUS has sent us their W90 “Republic of Gamers” notebook, which although they don’t call it as such, is a perfect desktop replacement. It offers incredible gaming ability (with an X2 ATI card), a Quad-Core processor, a massive display (18.4″) and a whole lot more.

Asus’ Republic of Gamers brand usually lags behind Alienware and Dell XPS laptops, but that looks set to change thanks to the W90. Potentially the fastest gaming laptop in existence, Asus hopes it will dominate the gaming world in the same way its Eee PC range has cornered the netbook market. It’s available to buy now from £2,228.

We never thought we’d see the day to be honest, but the mammoth W90 notebook from Asus comes with two Mobility Radeon HD 4870s and an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 45nm CPU, buried in a 18.4″ 5kg behemoth. “Notebook” is a loose term where the W90 is concerned and it’s more of a compact desktop than a notebook.

You wouldn’t know it to look at, but the Asus W90 is one of the most explosive laptops we’ve ever seen: beneath the understated brushed aluminium chassis lurks the first laptop in the world to deploy a pair of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 graphics chips in CrossFireX. Accordingly, the W90 achieved the fastest gaming results we’ve ever seen from a notebook.

The ASUS W90 represents a shift in the manufacturing and designing of the notebooks of today, where style plays an equally important role as performance. In blending the two elements together, the ASUS W90 can be likened to a high performance sports car-providing users with exhilarating performance and immaculate charm. Be it for entertainment or for work, the ASUS W90 is the definitive notebook for the modern, discerning consumer with an eye for design and attention to performance.

Although not typically known for its gaming laptops, Asus has become more of a face in the gaming market of late, and it’s W90 (£2399 inc. VAT) is the fastest laptop we’ve seen yet. The 18.4-inch screen is great for both gaming and movies and is the largest in the group. It features a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, natively supporting high definition (HD) video, and colour reproduction is excellent.

The latest series ASUS W90 review is before you, the primary aim of this analysis is to apprise you about designing of a new system, exclusively meant for gaming and would prove a chartbuster, in the open houses. The W90 offers the capabilities, like ATI Radeon Mobility 4870 graphics cards linked in CrossFireX, an Intel T9600 processor, 6GB of DDR2 memory, and an 18.4” WUXGA display.
